As a child, she fought to be who she really was, standing up for children when she protested abusive language in her small Southern Baptist church. 

After threats of being stoned to death from her father and being kicked out of her childhood home, she persevered.

She graduated high school as valedictorian and fought for her way to attend Georgetown University. Jacksonville and people around the world stood up to have her back.

That led to an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where she advocated for the queer community, and established a scholarship foundation.
